The Friends are active throughout the season raising money for the students, hosting concert receptions, and assisting the Director with various matters. I would encourage ALL parents to become involved with the Friends. Linda Russell will be serving as President of the Friends this year. Please plan to attend the first Friends meeting which will coincide with the Youth Symphony’s first rehearsal in the Glendale HS Cafeteria. Date to be announced.

From Mr. Johnston:

Our first rehearsal is September 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Glendale High School Band Room.  Information packets are being mailed out to all new and returning members.

If you are a returning member of the SYS, then I must say a big giant thank you for making my first year as Music Director fun!  It is an honor to direct an orchestra made up of such fine young musicians and citizens.  Students, please keep up the good work of making the SYS the best and classiest performance group of all SPS. 

If you are a new member of the Orchestra, we welcome you!  You have become a part of an organization dedicated to excellence.  You have earned a position in this ensemble through a successful audition.  Now we will depend on you and on each other to uphold the high standards set by the many students who have gone before.  Maintaining the high quality of the Youth Symphony’s performance requires that each member diligently prepare difficult music, abide by the rules necessary for the efficient running of the Orchestra, and give focused attention to detail during all rehearsals and performances.

We will not be having a Jump Start Day this season.  In exchange for freeing up that Saturday for you, I would ask that you practice your SYS parts for an hour sometime on Saturday, September 15^th.
