History and Sponsorship of The Springfield Youth Symphony
The Springfield Youth Symphony is sponsored financially by the Springfield Public Schools and supported by The Friends of the Springfield Youth Symphony, a parent booster organization. Since its founding in 1957, the Springfield Youth Symphony has provided outstanding young musicians with an opportunity to study and perform the standard orchestral repertoire. Members range in age from 14 to 18 and are auditioned from the Springfield Public Schools and the surrounding communities. The Orchestra has been honored to perform for various festivals and concert series. Among them are: The Banff International Festival of Youth Orchestras (1996, 1999), the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago (2000, 2005), the Missouri Music Educators Conference (2002), Carnegie Hall (2007), and the Festival of the States Concert Series in Washington, DC (2010).
