About Us

History and Sponsorship of The Springfield Youth Symphony

The Springfield Youth Symphony is sponsored financially by the Springfield Public Schools and supported by The Friends of the Springfield Youth Symphony, a parent booster organization. Since its founding in 1957, the Springfield Youth Symphony has provided outstanding young musicians with an opportunity to study and perform the standard orchestral repertoire. Members range in age from 14 to 18 and are auditioned from the Springfield Public Schools and the surrounding communities. The Orchestra has been honored to perform for various festivals and concert series. .

Stanley Lancaster Composition Winner

Robert Offutt is a senior at Reeds Spring High School. He began playing trumpet seven years ago, under the direction of Mr. John Devos. Through the years, he has studied under many teachers, including Robert Smither, Tim Wootton, Josh Garoutte, Stephanie Taber, and Heather Plybon.

Robert is a member of the Reeds Spring Wolf Pride Band and has earned numerous best soloist awards during his time there. He has also achieved many gold ratings at both District and State competitions during all four years of his high school career.

Robert has been a member of the Springfield Youth Symphony for four years, having the honor of serving as 1st chair, principle trumpet for three of those four years. He has been in the All-State band for the last three years in a row, and earned the title of 1st chair trumpet in the state of Missouri in 2020.

Robert is the son of Bob and Jenny Offutt, and the brother of Ben Offutt. 

 

 

 

Stanley Lancaster began playing the violin at a young age, however, he soon switched to the harp after discovering the instrument at a summer strings program in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He has since been studying harp for upwards of 8 years under the instruction of Dr. Jeremy Chesman. During that time, he has competed in MSHSAA state music competition, participated in the Springfield Youth Symphony, and performed in the Blue Eye High School Talent Showcase. At Blue Eye, Stanley also performs in the high school band where he serves as first chair euphonium. After completing high school, he plans to major in music composition at the Missouri State University Department of Music.
