About Us

History and Sponsorship of The Springfield Youth Symphony

The Springfield Youth Symphony is sponsored financially by the Springfield Public Schools and supported by The Friends of the Springfield Youth Symphony, a parent booster organization. Since its founding in 1957, the Springfield Youth Symphony has provided outstanding young musicians with an opportunity to study and perform the standard orchestral repertoire. Members range in age from 14 to 18 and are auditioned from the Springfield Public Schools and the surrounding communities. The Orchestra has been honored to perform for various festivals and concert series. .

The Springfield Youth Symphony will continue for its sixty-four season!

We are excited to announce our 2020-2021 season.  COVID-19 has brought about some required changes, but WE WILL PERSEVERE!  The season will start later in the fall.  Our first rehearsal will be Monday, October 5th in the Glendale Band Room.  Mr. Cronkhite and I have been planning for maximizing space required for social distancing.  We must wear masks. Our concert dates are the same as they would have been otherwise: Tuesday, December 1; and Tuesday, May 4, both at 7:30 p.m. in the Glendale Auditorium.  We do not yet know what audience attendance will look like.  More on that later.

Stanley Lancaster began playing the violin at a young age, however, he soon switched to the harp after discovering the instrument at a summer strings program in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He has since been studying harp for upwards of 8 years under the instruction of Dr. Jeremy Chesman. During that time, he has competed in MSHSAA state music competition, participated in the Springfield Youth Symphony, and performed in the Blue Eye High School Talent Showcase. At Blue Eye, Stanley also performs in the high school band where he serves as first chair euphonium. After completing high school, he plans to major in music composition at the Missouri State University Department of Music.
