Following high school, Troy attended Nebraska Christian College where he went to school to be a youth minister, but his love for music was very strong and decided to put the talents that were given to him to use.
In the spring of 1996, Troy returned to music and began his music education at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE. He later transferred to and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University. In 2002, Troy became the Director of Bands for the Lathrop R-2 School District and spent the next four years transforming the program to a traditional band program that would have a separate middle school and high school bands.
In 2006, Troy began work with the Smithville band program. In the six years that he was there, the marching band program has received high honors on and off of the field. The symphonic band has been the recipients of six straight Superior “I” ratings at the Missouri State Large Group Festival. Since 2012, Troy has been the director of bands with Glendale High School. While under his direction the band program has grown in size and have received numerous awards in marching band, concert bands and jazz bands.
In addition to his duties at Glendale, Troy serves as the Southwest Missouri Music Educators Association as the District Vice President for Jazz.
